Rights and Benefits
A member shall be entitled to the following rights and benefits as stated herein.
4:1. CONDITIONS:
A member shall be eligible for the below listed rights and benefits of members of this association if
(a). He is a registered member of this association for not less than a six months period.
(b) He is a member in good standing prior to the occurrence of the incident that requires assistance.
(c). A ‘member in good standing’ for the purpose of this constitution is defined as a member who is registered with the association for at least a six(6) month period; participates in at least fifty percent (50 %) of the activities of the association; owes no financial debt to the association , and abides by the rules and regulations of this association as set forth in this constitution.
4:2. Rights
(a). Every registered member in good standing (except an honorary member) shall have the right to vote and be voted for, in all the elections of the association amongst others.
(b). A member shall have the right to express his views on any issue(s) concerning the association according to the laid down procedures enumerated in Article 10 of this constitution.
(c). All members shall have equal rights, and access to the association’s amenities and documents. Such request shall be in writing and must be approved by the general assembly. Any cost associated with the request such as copying documents shall be paid by the requesting member.
4:3. BENEFITS:
(a). Death of a member:
A bereavement benefit shall be paid to an immediate family of a member upon his death. To be eligible, such member must have been in good standing prior to his death, and the association must receive an official notification from the immediate family of the deceased within three (3) weeks of such death. Upon review, the association will pay to the immediate family namely, surviving spouse or children(referred to as the next of kin) a fixed amount of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250, 000.00), on or before the burial date. Every member will be required to pay a minimum sum of Five Thousand Naira (N5000.00) to defray this cost.
In addition to the fixed amount, a sympathy donation shall be conducted on the platform for such a member and all fund derived therefrom shall be handed over to the next of kin.
(b). Death of a member’s spouse:
A bereavement benefit shall be paid to a member in good standing upon the death of the member’s spouse. The Association must receive an official notification from the member about the death of his spouse within three (3) weeks of such death.
The member shall be paid the sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200, 000.00) on or before the burial date. Every member will be required to pay a minimum sum of Five Thousand Naira (N5000.00) to defray this cost. Members shall have the option to make a free will donation of any amount directly to the bereaved member in addition to the basic levy if they choose to do so. A member shall be entitled to this benefit only once, regardless of the number(s) of spouse(s) he may have. Members living within the vicinity of the occasion are strongly encouraged to physically attend the funeral.
(c). Death of a member’s biological parents:
A bereavement benefit shall be paid to a member in good standing upon the death of any of the member’s parents. Upon review, the association will pay the member the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000.00) on or before the burial date. Each member will be required to pay a minimum sum of Two Thousand and Five Hundred naira (N2,500.00) to defray this cost. Members within the vicinity of the occasion are strongly encouraged to physically attend the funeral. Members shall have the option to make a free will donation of any amount directly to the bereaved member in addition to the basic levy if they choose to do so.
(d). Member in Distress:
A member in distress is hereby defined as a member in good standing who is incapacitated due to severe ill-health, by reason of which he is unable to work or engage in any type of employment. The reason for this type of assistance is to help the member financially in order to access better medical treatment. The Executive committee shall send a three(3) man delegation for evaluation of the situation and recommendation. If the member meets the conditions outlined in this paragraph, the association will provide the ailing member a one-time member in distress benefit of one hundred thousand Naira (N100, 000.00) payable within 30 days of the three(3) man committee report. Members shall be required to pay the sum of Two Thousand and Five Hundred Naira(N2,500.00) to defray this cost. Members shall have the option to make a free will donation of any amount directly to the member in distress in addition to the basic levy if they choose to do so.
(e). Incidental Powers: The rights and benefits of members enumerated herein are not exhaustive. The Executive committee with the approval of the General Assembly shall have the power to expand or contract these benefits, as and when it deems fit.
(f). Any fund realized in excess of the specified amount due to a member after contributions for a particular member assistance, except in the case of ‘death of member’, shall be deposited in the welfare funds of the association’s bank account.
